MCX Bullion News Updates

Gold prices-Gold rose only slightly on Thursday, after two days of losses, as the metal struggled to find direction in thin pre-holiday trade amid conflicting cues from the currency, equities and energy markets. Many financial centers around the world will shut early on Thursday and stay closed on Friday for the Christmas holidays. Some will remain shut on Monday. Gold prices have shed 9 percent so far this year, a third year of losses, mostly due to expectations the U.S. Federal Reserve would raise interest rates, which it did this month.

MCX Copper Tips-LME copper will narrowly range USD 4,660-4,725/mt during Asian trading hours Thursday. There will be little solid macroeconomic news today. A large number of investors will leave the market due to the Christmas holiday. Base metals prices should remain in upward track, but follow their own price trends. The number of US initial jobless claims last week rose above 270,000, but remaining below 300,000 for 42 weeks in a row, meaning a steady recovery in the US job market. China stepping up investment in grid and housing, combined with improvement in crude oil market, should inspire investors.

Crude oil prices-U.S. crude prices continued rising in early trading on Thursday, headed for an 11 percent rise in the week leading up to Christmas, as the U.S. market tightened on the back of falling supplies and looming exports. On the production front, Baker Hughes reported that U.S. oil drillers cut rigs for a fifth week in the last six, a sign drillers were waiting on higher prices before returning to the well pad.  The current rig count is pointing to U.S. production declining sequentially between 2Q15 and 4Q15 by 320,000 barrels per day," Goldman Sachs said.
